New Staff Member! Chantell Morais

Chantell Morais

On August 10, Chantell Morais, M.A., will begin her journey with Institute for the Study of Spirit as Programs and Operations Manager.

A band member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, Chantell proudly acknowledges her Haudenosaunee, Mi'kmaq and European ancestors that stand with her. She sits with the Bear Clan and has called Toronto her home for the last 24 years.

With an educational background in Sociology, Gender Studies, and Legal Theory, her career has been rooted largely in frontline work in hospitals, community health centres, and nonprofit organizations where she held space for those needing support around substance use and mental health. She later shifted towards systems change and education to advance programs rooted in braiding together Traditional Knowledge and Western ways of seeing the importance of holistic care.

Deeply connected to Mother Earth and the medicine plants, Chantell has been in training with Elders and Knowledge Carriers to enhance her understanding of the land, ceremonies, and traditional medicines. She is passionate about supporting those finding their way back to culture, ceremony, and traditional ways of being.

"We are honoured to welcome Chantell to our team. In all of the work that she does, Chantell advocates for the connection and inclusion of culture and reciprocal relationships based in shared knowledge exchange." Institute for the Study of Spirit
